More about this plant

Gulf Stream nandina is a compact, dense evergreen shrub 2 to 3 feet tall and 3 to 5 feet wide, grown for foliage rather than flowers. The narrow, diamond shaped leaflets emerge coppery orange, turn turquoise green in summer and colour orange red for fall and winter. This cultivar is non flowering and essentially sterile, so it sets no berries and carries a much lower invasiveness risk than the species. It takes full sun to dappled shade, grows in clay, loam or sand at acid through alkaline pH with good drainage, needs little pruning and resists deer, drought and salt. Use it for low hedges, borders, small spaces and containers. All parts are poisonous if eaten.
