More about this plant
Double Play Doozie is a non stop blooming spirea, a mounded deciduous shrub 2 to 3 feet tall and wide. Deep red new growth opens the season, then bright glowing purple red flowers carry from late spring through fall with no deadheading, because the plant is seedless and puts no energy into seed. It takes part sun to full sun, average water, and is drought tolerant and exceptionally hardy from zone 3 to zone 8, as well as deer resistant. Use it for edging, borders, containers, mass plantings or as a small focal point. Its seedlessness is the point of the selection: Proven Winners describes it as seedless and non invasive, unlike the Japanese spireas.
- Full Sun
- Grows to 3 ft tall and 3 ft wide
- Blooms in spring, summer, fall
- Hardy in USDA zones 3-8
- Deciduous foliage

- Pruning
- Low maintenance and no deadheading needed. An optional light trim after the spring bloom encourages a reflush of red foliage. Remove the oldest stems every couple of years to keep the plant vigorous.
