More about this plant

Burkwood viburnum is an open, multi stemmed hybrid shrub 8 to 10 feet tall and 5 to 9 feet wide. Pink buds open in cymes 2 to 3 inches across to intensely fragrant white flowers from mid March into April, ahead of most other viburnums. The glossy green leaves up to 4 inches long have hairy undersides and turn maroon to purple in fall, and red drupes about a third of an inch across blacken through summer. It grows in full sun or partial shade in clay, loam or sandy soil with good drainage, is mildly deer resistant and drought tolerant, and is used for foundation plantings, informal hedges and as a fragrant specimen near a walk or a door.
