More about this plant
Mariesii is the classic doublefile viburnum, a dense multi stemmed shrub whose branches tier horizontally so that the flat white flower cymes ride along the top of each layer in spring. The dark green ovate leaves have a pleated, deeply veined surface and turn purple to burgundy in fall, and egg shaped fleshy fruit follows in fall. It grows fast in full sun or partial shade on clay, loam or sandy soil, acid to neutral, with good drainage, and is drought tolerant once established. Its horizontal architecture makes it a specimen rather than a filler. Note that Viburnum plicatum is listed as invasive in many parts of the United States.
- Full Sun
- Grows to 15 ft tall and 18 ft wide
- Blooms in spring
- Hardy in USDA zones 5-8
- Deciduous foliage
