More about this plant

An upright broadleaf evergreen shrub or small tree in the rose family, growing about 10 to 15 feet tall and 5 to 7 feet wide with a dense, rounded to vase shaped outline. Glossy green lanceolate leaves 3 to 6 inches long set off small fragrant white flowers carried in dense cylindrical racemes in spring, followed by half inch purple black drupes in early summer. It takes full sun or partial shade, wants good drainage with regular watering in hot summers, and tolerates dry soil, poor soil, salt and pollution, which makes it a durable hedge, screen or mass planting.
