More about this plant
Skinny Schip is a selection of cherry laurel, an evergreen shrub or small tree in the rose family native to Europe. The species carries glossy dark green leaves, fragrant white star shaped flowers under an inch across in dense cylindrical racemes up to four inches long in spring, and small purple black drupes in summer and fall. It grows fast, about 25 inches or more a year, in partial shade to full sun in moist, well drained soil supplemented with organic matter, and tolerates alkaline soils, dry and poor soils, pollution and heavy pruning. Root rot occurs in wet locations and shot hole disease can spot the leaves, but cherry laurel is generally more disease and insect resistant than other Prunus species. Use it as a hedge or a screen for shaded areas.
