More about this plant

An erect native deciduous azalea of the lower southeastern states, 8 to 10 feet tall and wide, whose fragrant funnel shaped flowers open in spring before the leaves emerge. Pale yellow buds open to lemon yellow flowers with a darker blotch, within a species range that runs from clear yellow and cream through gold orange to almost red, and the dark green foliage turns yellow to bronze orange in autumn. It is heat tolerant and low maintenance, wanting partial shade and an acid to neutral, organic, well drained but moist soil, and works as a specimen in a naturalized area or at a woodland edge.
