More about this plant

A deciduous azalea bred at Dodd Nursery from Hotspur Yellow crossed with Rhododendron austrinum, reaching about 6 feet in ten years and forming an upright multi stemmed shrub. In early midseason spring it carries clusters of funnel shaped flowers about 1.5 inches across, bright yellow with a darker blotch and extremely fragrant, over dark green mildew resistant foliage that turns orange bronze to scarlet in fall. It is very heat tolerant, cold hardy to about 10 degrees below zero Fahrenheit, and wants fertile, slightly acid, well drained soil around pH 5.2 to 5.8 with morning sun and afternoon shade. Use it as a fragrant accent or specimen in beds, borders and woodland shade gardens.
