More about this plant
Santa Rosa is a classic Japanese plum reaching about 20 to 30 feet tall and wide with a rounded, moderately growing habit. Showy white cup shaped flowers open in spring and are followed by dark crimson summer fruit with firm flesh, excellent fresh or in preserves. It needs full sun, a deep well drained loam and roughly 400 chill hours, and does not require a pollenizer although yields improve with a second plum nearby. Foliage turns yellow in fall. It attracts pollinators, benefits birds and can be trained as an espalier or grown as a border and accent tree. Leaves, stems and pits are reported toxic to dogs, cats and horses.
- Full Sun
- Grows to 30 ft tall and 30 ft wide
- Blooms in spring
- Hardy in USDA zones 5-9
