More about this plant
A rapid growing broadleaf evergreen shrub or small tree of upright, oval to slightly rounded form, reaching 10 to 20 feet tall and 5 to 10 feet wide. Its lustrous dark green leaves flush copper-red on new growth, which is the reason the plant is grown. Terminal cymes of small white flowers open in mid spring and are followed by small red pomes in fall; the blooms are foetid and many gardeners find the smell offensive. It takes full sun to partial shade, tolerates alkaline soil, drought and salt spray, and will not accept wet feet, so plant it on well drained ground. Use it as a clipped hedge, a screen, a border or a lawn specimen.
- Full Sun
- Grows to 20 ft tall and 10 ft wide
- Blooms in spring
- Hardy in USDA zones 7a-8b
