More about this plant
An upright, multi stemmed small tree or large shrub reaching 15 to 20 feet tall and 6 to 10 feet wide, flowering from summer into fall when little else is in bloom. Fragrant white flowers in panicles are followed by vivid cherry red to rose purple calyces that extend the display, and the deep green opposite leaves give way in winter to light tan peeling bark. It takes part sun to sun with average moisture and good drainage in clay, loam, sand or high organic soils, tolerates poor soil, and needs essentially no special care. Bees, butterflies and hummingbirds work the flowers. Use it as a specimen, a border anchor or in a naturalised woodland edge.
- Full Sun
- Grows to 20 ft tall and 10 ft wide
- Blooms in summer, fall
