More about this plant
Golden Hinoki cypress is a slow growing, dense and erect pyramidal evergreen conifer reaching about 10 to 15 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide. Sprays of tiny feathery bright golden yellow scale like foliage cover the frond like spreading branches, with green foliage within the plant and good winter color, and the reddish brown bark shreds and peels in narrow strips. Small brown cones under an inch across follow. It takes full sun to partial shade in clay, loam or sandy acid soil with good drainage, tolerating occasional wet and occasional dry conditions, and is hardy from zone 4 through zone 8. Resistant to deer and insect pests with no significant problems, it serves as a hedge, screen or specimen and suits Asian, cottage and winter gardens.
