More about this plant
Dura Heat is a river birch selection chosen for greater heat and drought tolerance than the species, with superior insect and disease resistance. It forms a fast growing pyramidal tree, often multi trunked, carrying dense glossy green leaves that fade to a clear butter yellow in fall. The chief ornament is the pinkish orange exfoliating bark, which peels in papery layers and gives strong winter interest. It wants full sun and soil kept moist to wet, tolerates clay, compaction, pollution and wet ground, and suits lawns, riparian edges and rain gardens where a focal point or shade tree is wanted.
- Full Sun
- Grows to 40 ft tall and 35 ft wide
- Blooms in spring
- Hardy in USDA zones 3-7
- Deciduous foliage
- Native plant
