More about this plant
A medium sized deciduous oakleaf hydrangea of about 4 to 6 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide with strong upright stems. White elongated cone like panicles open from May through July and fade to pink as they age, and the large lobed leaves turn purple, red and copper brown in fall while the light brown bark exfoliates to reveal a rich inner brown for winter interest. It grows in full sun or partial shade in moist, well drained soil high in organic matter and resists many of the leaf diseases that trouble other hydrangeas. It holds a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit and works as a specimen, an accent, a hedge or a foundation shrub.
