More about this plant
Assorted roses are woody deciduous shrubs, generally 1 to 8 feet tall and 2 to 6 feet wide depending on class, carrying alternate pinnately compound leaves and stems armed with sharp prickles. Flowers come in red, orange, yellow, pink, purple and white, are often strongly fragrant and are the classic cutting flower, with most modern types repeating from spring into fall. They need a full day of sun, at least six to eight hours, and loose, well aerated, organically rich soil that drains freely, with deep rather than frequent watering. Expect high maintenance: late winter pruning and regular deadheading. Hips left on the plant feed birds and small mammals.
