More about this plant
A narrow, upright barberry reaching 3 to 4 feet tall but only 18 inches to 2 feet wide, so it gives vertical colour in a small footprint. The foliage is bright yellow with orange red new growth and has been proven burn resistant in full sun, then finishes the season in a stunning orange red. Small yellow flowers appear in spring and red berries follow into winter. It is extremely adaptable, very deer resistant, needs average water and prefers a well drained soil, and requires no pruning although it may be shaped in summer. Use it in shrub and perennial borders, groupings, masses and containers. The species is recorded as invasive and the stems are thorny.
