More about this plant
A compact, mounded panicle hydrangea reaching about 3 to 5 feet tall and wide. The flowers open lime green and then change progressively from the bottom of the panicle upward through white and light pink to a rich red, so a single cluster can carry several colours at once. It blooms from early summer through fall in part sun to sun on average, well drained soil, and unlike bigleaf types the soil pH does not affect the bloom colour. Use it as a border plant, in containers, or for fresh and dried cut flowers.
- Full Sun
- Grows to 5 ft tall and 5 ft wide
- Blooms in summer, fall
- Hardy in USDA zones 3-9
- Deciduous foliage

- Flowers
- Panicles emerge lime green then progress from the bottom up through white and light pink to a rich Hawaiian Punch red, so one bloom can carry white, green and pink at the same time.
- Pruning
- Prune in late winter or early spring. Apply a controlled release fertilizer in early spring; a supplemental liquid feed may be needed in mid summer.
- Native range
- Eastern and southern China, Japan, Sakhalin, Taiwan and Kuril Island
