More about this plant

An azalea in the genus Rhododendron, grown as a rounded, slow growing shrub for cool, partially shaded sites such as the filtered shade of pine trees. Spring flowers are bell to funnel shaped and about 1 to 3 inches across, held over alternate, glossy, leathery green leaves with entire margins. It needs acid, well drained soil high in organic matter at a pH of 4.5 to 6.0, is shallow rooted and easily damaged by excess moisture, and should be kept out of long periods of hot full sun and drying wind. It draws hummingbirds, pollinators and specialized bees and suits containers, patios, naturalized areas and woodland edges.
