More about this plant
A Satsuki hybrid azalea and a low, slow growing, dense and twiggy evergreen shrub roughly 2 to 4 feet tall with a spread often greater than its height. It flowers late, about 60 days after the spring equinox in May and early June, with single blooms about 2.5 inches across in pale to salmon pink marked by a rose red blotch, held among the newly emerging leaves over dark green foliage. Satsukis are less winter hardy than the Kurumes and are recommended for zones 7 through 9; they display better with some sun, ideally morning sun with afternoon shade, in acidic, highly organic soil that drains well yet is never allowed to dry out. Use it in borders, foundation beds and shaded garden edges.
