A compact, dwarf evergreen mahonia reaching about three feet tall and three and a half feet wide, with soft, threadlike, bamboo like emerald green foliage that carries no thorns at all. Bright yellow flowers open in early winter and are followed by blue berries that attract birds, giving year round interest in shade. It wants part shade to shade and little water once established, resists pests and disease, and needs only a spring prune and a yearly spring feed. Use it as an accent, in containers, in mass plantings or in an Asian style shade garden.
