More about this plant
A small deciduous flowering cherry in the rose family, a hybrid of Prunus campanulata and Prunus incisa, reaching 15 to 30 feet tall and 20 to 30 feet wide with a vase shaped crown. Clear bright rosy pink blooms with one inch petals appear in profusion in early spring, are mildly fragrant and last about three weeks, and the deep green leaves with orange tints turn gold, orange and red in fall. Polished reddish brown bark with horizontal lenticels adds interest. It needs full sun, takes clay, sand or shallow rocky soil across a wide pH range, and resists drought, heat and humidity, though flowers can be caught by a late freeze.
