More about this plant

A fast growing deciduous butterfly bush with an open arching multi stemmed form, reaching roughly 6 to 12 feet tall and 4 to 15 feet wide. Coarse gray green to dark green opposite leaves back long panicles of small fragrant tubular flowers that open from June into fall and draw butterflies, bees, pollinating insects and the occasional hummingbird. It needs full sun and sharply drained soil since the roots rot when waterlogged, and it tolerates deer, drought, heat, humidity, rabbits and salt once established. Cut it back to about a foot from the ground before spring growth for the heaviest flowering. The species is listed as weedy and invasive in parts of the United States.
