More about this plant
An evergreen azalea, named 2010 Rhododendron of the Year, making an open, multi stemmed shrub with an upright spreading, rounded habit about 3 to 4 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide. Mid spring brings trumpet shaped flowers roughly 2 inches wide in a deep, rich, fiery clear red, clustered at the branch tips and so numerous they nearly cover the plant, over glossy dark green foliage that emerges with a bronze tinge. It needs acidic, organically rich, humusy, well drained soil around pH 5.0 to 5.5, dislikes alkaline ground, and prefers dappled or high open shade, or morning sun with afternoon shade. Use it as an accent, in mass plantings, beds and containers.
