More about this plant
The Fuji apple is a dwarf cultivar of Malus domestica created in Japan in the 1930s from Red Delicious and the old Virginia Ralls Genet. It makes a dense, erect, rounded deciduous tree 8 to 15 feet tall and wide with simple green alternate leaves and fragrant, showy April flowers whose petals are pink on the back and white on the face. Round red fruit with some speckling ripens in mid-October; it is large, firm, crisp and sweet, excellent for fresh eating and equally good frozen, baked or cooked. Plant in full sun in moist, well drained loam rich in organic matter at neutral pH. Expect frequent disease and insect problems, notably scab, powdery mildew and aphids. The flowers attract bees, butterflies and pollinators.
